Mobile Mechanic in Dudley and the Black Country

Home, work, or wherever the car stopped. Most jobs get done on your driveway, and the ones that genuinely need a ramp go back to our Dudley workshop instead.

The honest answer

What can we actually do at your house?

The question we get asked most is some version of "but what can you actually do at my house?" Fair question, and the honest answer surprises most people.

The limit isn't skill or equipment. It's ramps. Anything that needs the car lifted properly, or held on a rig, has to happen in a workshop. Everything else can be done on a driveway, in a car park, or at the side of a road, and that covers the large majority of what goes wrong with cars.

We're not a mobile-only outfit that disappears when a job gets big. We have a workshop in Dudley. So you're not choosing between someone who comes to you and someone who can do proper work. You get the same two mechanics either way.

On your driveway

What we can do at your home or work

Most of it, in short. Including:

Diagnostics

Full multi-module scan, live data, fault found and explained on the screen in front of you.

Servicing

Basic and full services, oil and filter, plugs, air and pollen filters, fluids and a full safety check.

Brakes

Pads and discs front and rear, fluid and handbrake adjustment.

Batteries

Supplied, fitted and coded where the car needs it. Modern cars often do.

Starting and charging

Alternators, starter motors and drive belts.

Sensors and electrical faults

ABS, lambda and airflow sensors, wiring faults, coil packs and spark plugs.

Cooling and leaks

Hoses, thermostats, coolant leaks and finding the source of an oil leak.

Suspension and wear

Shocks, springs and link bars on many cars, plus wipers, bulbs, filters and belts.

If you're not sure whether yours is on the list, ring and ask. It's a thirty-second conversation and it saves you guessing.

What genuinely needs the workshop

We'd rather tell you upfront than turn up and find out.

  • Clutch replacement and gearbox work generally
  • Timing belts and wet belts, most of the time
  • Anything needing the engine or subframe supported
  • Exhaust work beyond a simple section
  • Jobs needing access or torque settings that can only be reached safely on a ramp

We collect the car, do the work at Unit 6 in Dudley, and bring it back. One mechanic, one price, no ferrying it about.

What we don't do at all: accident damage, bodywork and paint. We'll point you at someone who does.

Is a mobile mechanic cheaper than a garage?

Usually, yes. A garage carries the cost of premises, ramps, a reception, and often a service manager and an advisor between you and the person holding the spanner. That's all in your bill. Mobile work strips most of that out.

The bigger saving is usually the one nobody puts on an invoice. You don't take a morning off, arrange a lift, or sit in a waiting room. For a lot of people that's worth more than the difference on the labour rate.

Where a garage wins is on jobs that need the kit. That's exactly why we have a workshop as well.

Where we can actually work

We need somewhere reasonably flat and safe: a driveway, a private car park, or a quiet residential street. What we can't do is work on a busy main road, on a steep slope, or anywhere we'd be in traffic.

If you're at work, check your employer is happy for us to be there. If you're in a flat with communal parking, a quick word with whoever manages it usually sorts it. If the car isn't safe to move at all, tell us on the phone and we'll work out the best way round it.

Roadside breakdowns

If the car has stopped somewhere safe, call us. We'll come out, diagnose it, and there's a decent chance we'll get it going.

If it needs more than a roadside fix, we'll say so honestly rather than fiddle with it for an hour on your money.

Recent work

What we've sorted recently

Three garages, no answers, and a car stuck in limp mode

This customer had an engine warning light and a car that kept dropping into limp mode. He'd already been to three garages without a price or a date. Elliot diagnosed it on the driveway, showed him the faults, and agreed a price before any decision. The quote covered the repair, parts and a full service, and the car left feeling tight like new.

A dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree: Peugeot 208

Tracing this properly led to a break in the wiring loom that was cutting off the ABS signal. No sensor would have fixed that on its own. We repaired the loom, fitted a fresh ABS sensor on the other side, and the customer paid for a wiring repair instead of a parade of parts.

Battery at the house, oil leak at the workshop

We fitted the battery at the customer's house, then took the car to the workshop for the full service and oil leak that needed the proper kit. The whole lot was done in a few hours, with one mechanic and one price.

This service is for you if

  • You want a repair or diagnosis at home, at work or at the roadside
  • You'd rather talk to the person actually doing the work
  • You can't spare half a day sitting in a waiting room
  • Your car is drivable, or safely parked somewhere we can reach it

When we're not the right call

  • The job needs a ramp or a rig, in which case we collect it for the Dudley workshop instead
  • Accident damage, bodywork or paint, which isn't what we do

We'll always tell you honestly if someone else is a better fit.

Common questions

What can a mobile mechanic actually do at my house?

Far more than most people expect. Diagnostics, servicing, brake pads and discs, batteries, alternators, starter motors, sensors, spark plugs, filters, belts, suspension work on many cars, and most electrical fault finding. The limit is ramps, not skill. Jobs that need the car properly lifted go to our Dudley workshop instead.

Is there a call-out charge?

No. We don't charge you for turning up or for giving you a price. Labour starts from £65 and you get a quote before any work begins.

How quickly can you get to me?

Usually within the hour across Dudley, Stourbridge, Halesowen and the surrounding Black Country. Call and Elliot or Keith will give you an honest arrival time before you commit to anything.

Is a mobile mechanic cheaper than a garage?

Usually, because there's no premises overhead and no layers of staff between you and the mechanic. The bigger saving for most people is not losing half a day to a waiting room. For jobs that genuinely need a ramp, a workshop is the right answer, which is why we have one as well.

Can you do the work at my workplace?

Yes, and a lot of our jobs happen in work car parks. Just check your employer is happy for us to be there, and that there's somewhere flat and safe to park.

Do you cover roadside breakdowns?

Yes. If the car has stopped somewhere safe to work, we'll come out, diagnose it and often fix it there. If it needs more than a roadside repair we'll tell you straight and talk through the options.

Which makes and models do you work on?

All makes and models, petrol, diesel and hybrid, from small cars to large vans. Keith spent 40+ years as a Vauxhall main-dealer technician, so Vauxhall and Opel drivers are in particularly familiar hands.

Can you do an MOT at my house?

No, and neither can anyone else. The official MOT has to be done at a DVSA-approved test centre. What we do instead is collect the car, take it for the test, sort anything that fails and bring it back.
