From £350

Final price depends on the vehicle and parts required

Check the fault before committing to a clutch

Slipping, juddering and difficult gear changes can point to clutch wear, but similar symptoms can come from hydraulics, cables, mounts or gearbox problems. We start with the registration, mileage and symptoms, then inspect what is practical before recommending a replacement.

The advertised From £350 price is a starting point rather than a universal fixed price. See the wider clutch replacement service details, or send the registration and symptoms through our online quote form so we can identify the correct parts and labour.

Signs your clutch needs checking

Avoid driving if the car will not select gears safely, loses drive or produces severe noise. Call first if you are unsure whether it should be moved.

Engine revs rise without the car accelerating normally
Biting point feels unusually high, low or inconsistent
Gears are difficult to select, especially first or reverse
Judder, vibration or noise when setting off
Pedal feels heavy, soft, sticky or stays down
Burning smell after hill starts or slow traffic

How a Stourbridge clutch quote works

1

Tell us the symptoms

Share the registration, mileage, location and what the pedal, gears and engine are doing.

2

Inspect the vehicle

We check the likely cause where access and condition allow, rather than assuming every gear-selection fault needs a clutch.

3

Confirm the quote

We identify the suitable kit and explain any vehicle-specific items that may change the price before work starts.

4

Arrange the repair

We agree workshop access, collection or recovery needs and a realistic timescale based on parts and workload.

Clutch replacement is labour-intensive and is not promised as same-day work. Timing depends on the vehicle, parts availability, inspection findings and workshop diary.

What replacement work can include

The exact parts and procedure follow the vehicle specification and the agreed quote.

Confirm the symptoms and check the clutch controls
Remove and refit the gearbox using appropriate workshop equipment
Replace the clutch kit components specified for the vehicle
Inspect the flywheel, hydraulics, seals and related wear points
Refill or adjust affected systems where the repair requires it
Carry out final checks and a road test where safe and appropriate

What may cost extra or need a specialist

A dual-mass flywheel, concentric slave cylinder, other hydraulic parts, damaged seals, seized fasteners, gearbox faults and recovery are not automatically included in the starting price. If inspection reveals any of these, we explain the finding and obtain approval before adding work.

Some dual-clutch, automated-manual, performance, specialist and heavily modified vehicles need different equipment, procedures or parts. We do not claim the service is suitable for every vehicle; the registration and fault details let us confirm whether we can take it on.

Mobile inspection, workshop replacement

Initial checks may be possible at your home or workplace when the vehicle is accessible and there is safe, level space. A full clutch replacement normally involves supporting the drivetrain and removing the gearbox, so the repair itself is usually completed at an equipped workshop rather than on a public road or tight driveway.

Collection and return may be arranged in advance where the vehicle is safe to drive and the route and diary allow. If it has lost drive or cannot be moved safely, recovery must be agreed separately. Tell us about restricted parking, low access, permits or a vehicle left in a difficult position when you contact us.

Clutch wear around Stourbridge and DY8

Stourbridge sits in the Stour valley, with repeated climbs toward Wollaston, Norton and Oldswinford. Hill starts, slow queues through the centre and stop-start use on routes such as the A491 and A458 can make existing clutch wear more noticeable, especially in a heavily loaded car or van.

We help drivers in Stourbridge town centre, Wordsley, Amblecote, Wollaston, Oldswinford and Norton, whether the vehicle is used for short local trips, school runs, deliveries or commuting into the wider Black Country. Driving conditions alone do not diagnose a failed clutch, so we still check the symptoms before quoting replacement.

If the car is also due routine maintenance, our car servicing in Stourbridge page explains the driveway service options available locally; any clutch work is inspected and quoted separately.

What local customers say

Genuine verified customer reviews, selected from our live review database.

I had an awful grinding noise start on my Vauxhall Antara but could not identify exactly where it was coming from. I took the car to several garages and a transmission specialist but none of them could give me an answer. I looked on line and called your local mechanic and spoke to Elliot in Stourbridge. He told me to take the car over and he would take a look. We went out for a test drive and Elliot identified the problem almost immediately. Elliot called me later the same day with prices for replacement parts fitted, both new and used. I agreed to have new parts and Elliot took the car in immediately. He kept me informed of progress as a big transmission job and completed the work in time for my holiday. Car is now like new. This mechanic is very professional, friendly and extremely knowledgeable and competitive. Top marks and many thanks Elliot, you will be highly recommended 👍👍👍

What can I say?? Absolutely fantastic service from start to finish. That dreaded feeling you have when you need to find a new mechanic and worry about if you're getting a cowboy or going to be ripped off, well that's one thing I'm confident is not gonna happen with Elliot. So my car engine warning light come on, keeps going in limp mode practically unusable I've tried about 3 other garages prior to this one none would give me idea of prices, availability etc I found your local mechanic online and dropped them a message via WhatsApp got a response within 30 mins booked to come out to my house the next day for diagnostics. Elliot kept me updated did diagnostics, showed me faults, explained what needs to be done and how much he could do it for. No pressure to use him it was my informed decision his quote was a lot less than I expected and that included repairs, parts and a full service as that was due agreed. Elliot was flexible to my needs and availability fitted around me, kept me updated throughout and when I drove away my car felt like a new car again everything felt tight like when you get a new car, engine sounds quieter all round satisfied customer. I have found my new go to mechanic. Straight forward honest advice, flexible to my needs, good fair prices and all round genuine bloke if you want a trusted person who isn't trying to mug you off and scam you out of as much as they can then use these guys highly recommend
