In for a service with nothing reported. Elliot found the front discs and pads worn during the checks, and the customer had them done on the same visit.

So this car is a 2019 Honda Civic that we had in today at Your Local Mechanic.
This one was dropped off to us at the garage, was in for some routine maintenance, um, service.
Upon the service, we discovered that the car needed front discs and pads, so the customer opted to have them done straight away.
Car was back to them within a couple of hours.
Nothing was reported wrong with this Civic. The worn front discs and pads only came to light because checking the brakes is a standard part of every service we do, with the wheels off and the car up on the ramp. That is the difference between a service and a tick-box oil change: it is a proper look at the things that actually stop the car.
Because the car was already on the ramp with the wheels off, fitting the front discs and pads there and then was the quickest and cheapest way to do it. The customer gave the go-ahead, Elliot fitted them, and the car was back within a couple of hours rather than coming back another day.
Elliot says the customer “opted” to have the brakes done, and that is the order it always happens in. Anything found during a service is priced up with the part and the labour, and nothing is fitted until you say yes. The service price you were quoted does not move.
