The MOT, minus the morning off work
For most Dudley drivers the annoying part of the MOT isn't the £40 — it's the logistics. Drop the car off, find a lift back, wait for a phone call, go and fetch it. Because our workshop is here in Dudley, we flip that around: tell us the registration and where the car lives, and we do the running about. Whether it's parked up near the fountain on Market Place, on a drive in Kates Hill or outside work at Dudley Port, we collect it, take it through its test and bring it back.
When the result comes through, you get it from a mechanic, not a printout. Keith is a fully qualified MOT assessor with 40 years behind him, so a pass with advisories gets translated into plain English — what's genuinely urgent, what can wait, and what it would cost to sort. If you'd like the car looked over before the test, we also do a pre-MOT inspection and can pair the appointment with car servicing in Dudley so it's all done in one go.
What the test covers
The MOT is the annual legal roadworthiness check — it inspects prescribed safety and environmental items, and it isn't a substitute for servicing.
Collection to certificate in three steps
Tell us the reg and the expiry
A quick call or message with your registration, when the MOT runs out and where in Dudley the car is kept.
We collect and test
We pick the car up at the agreed time, run it to the test and keep you posted — no waiting room, no taxi home.
Result explained, car returned
Pass, advisories or a fail, you get the honest version and a written quote for any work before deciding anything.
Collection slots depend on the day's diary, so book ahead where you can — expiry week is always the busiest.
Dudley is where we start every morning
Plenty of pages on the internet claim to "cover Dudley". We actually work from here — the vans leave a Dudley workshop every morning, and the DY1, DY2 and DY3 postcodes are the shortest runs we do. That matters for an MOT with collection: it's the difference between a tight, reliable pickup time and a vague window.
If the car needs work before it will pass — brakes worn from town-centre stop-start traffic is the classic Dudley failure we see — our mobile mechanics in Dudley can often do the repair at your home, then we handle the retest arrangements. One phone number for the whole thing.

“I had an awful grinding noise start on my Vauxhall Antara but could not identify exactly where it was coming from. I took the car to several garages and a transmission specialist but none of them could give me an answer. I looked on line and called your local mechanic and spoke to Elliot in Stourbridge. He told me to take the car over and he would take a look. We went out for a test drive and Elliot identified the problem almost immediately. Elliot called me later the same day with prices for replacement parts fitted, both new and used. I agreed to have new parts and Elliot took the car in immediately. He kept me informed of progress as a big transmission job and completed the work in time for my holiday. Car is now like new. This mechanic is very professional, friendly and extremely knowledgeable and competitive. Top marks and many thanks Elliot, you will be highly recommended 👍👍👍”

Dudley MOT questions
How does an MOT with you work when I live in Dudley?
This is our home patch — the workshop is in Dudley itself — so the usual arrangement is the easiest one: we collect the car from your drive or workplace, take it for its test, and bring it back with the result talked through. You lose no morning sitting in a waiting room.
How early can I book the MOT without losing my renewal date?
Up to a month (minus a day) before the current certificate runs out. Test it inside that window and the new MOT still runs from the old expiry date, so you lose nothing by booking early — and you leave yourself time to fix anything it picks up.
Do I have to fix advisories?
Not to pass — advisories are the tester flagging wear that isn’t yet a fail, like tyres getting low or brakes part-worn. We go through yours honestly: some genuinely can wait until the next service, others are cheaper to sort now than after they become a failure or a breakdown.
Can you sort repairs and the retest if it fails?
Yes — that’s the point of using a mechanic rather than a test lane. We quote the repair work in writing, do it with your approval, and handle the retest arrangements. Retest timing and any charge depend on the result and the test centre’s rules, which we confirm before going ahead.
Which parts of Dudley do you collect from?
All of DY1, DY2 and DY3 — the town centre, Castle Hill, Kates Hill, Eve Hill, Wren’s Nest, Priory, and out through Netherton, Woodside and Dudley Port. If you’re just outside those postcodes, ask anyway; we cover most of the Black Country.
